Newry based company doubles workforce amid continued growth
Newry based sports analytics company STATSports has more than doubled its workforce over the past year, as a result of strong sales worldwide and an influx of new partnership agreements.
The last year has seen the privately-owned firm grow its staff from 17 to 40 employees, resulting in the relocation of the company to new bespoke office space at Drumalane Mill in the city.
STATSports’ exponential growth has coincided with the release of its third-generation system for elite sports teams.
Touted as the most advanced performance monitoring and analysis system on the market, Apex is helping the firm make inroads on its competitors and add significant new clients to its global portfolio.
Jarlath Quinn, Group Managing Director at STATSports, said he was thrilled at the progress the company had made, as well as customers’ initial response to Apex.
Commenting on the growth he told Newry Times, “This is the next stage in STATSports’ journey. We are continuing to move in the right direction and are confident we have the right team in place to drive further growth over the coming years.
“We have ambitious plans for our technology and are putting the right team and resource in place to execute those plans.”
Already counting the IRFU, FAI, IFA and numerous GAA county teams amongst its domestic client base (both Dublin and Mayo utilised STATSports devices on their way to this year’s All-Ireland Final), STATSports has recently signed deals with Inter Milan, Athletic Bilbao, AS Monaco, the Scottish FA and Portuguese FA.
Commenting on their new five-year deal with the IRFU, Mr Quinn said, “The IRFU was one of our first clients and it’s a relationship that has always meant a lot to us. We have worked with all four provinces over the past decade, but to sign a long-term deal with the national team is a significant step forward for the company.”
This builds upon its established list of clients which includes rugby giants South Africa and France, as well as English teams Wasps and Bristol.
Jarlarth believes that there is more to come from the company with its commitment to research and development.
He added, “We have received invaluable support from Invest NI and Barclays which has helped us invest further in the research and development of our technology. We are further enhancing our Apex system with the development of mobile, tablet and smartwatch apps to make data even more accessible for coaches and managers ensuring peak performance can be attained.”
