Community united in shock after tragic death of young Bessbrook boy

Roisin Mulgrew, Sinn Féin Slieve Gullion Councillor and Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down Council, has expressed her condolences with the family and friends of a young boy tragically killed in Bessbrook on Friday.

The young boy was struck by a car in Dobsons Way in Bessbrook on Friday morning.

He was subsequently rushed to Daisy Hill Hospital for emergency treatment. He died a short time after.

Speaking to Newry Times, Cllr Mulgrew expressed a sense of shock and sorrow shared by the wider community. “This tragic incident has sent shockwaves throughout the community and the loss will be felt in every home in the area, but not least with the grieving family.”

She added, “My thoughts are with his family and friends over the coming weeks and months as they come to terms with this tragedy, as will those of every citizen in the area.”

Article continues below:Ulster Unionist Councillor David Taylor also expressed his condolences to the family of the young boy.

Councillor Taylor said, “I am very sorry to hear of the tragic passing of the young boy fatally injured in a traffic accident at Bessbrook. This is a heartbreaking incident which has no doubt left his family distraught and has come as a great shock to the entire local community.

He added, “My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very sad time and I hope and trust they will find the necessary strength to cope with their grief over the difficult days which lie ahead.”
