Ennis slams decision to remove transport from Ballyholland Primary School

Sinéad Ennis, MLA for South Down, and Cllr Oksana McMahon have slammed the decision by the Education Authority to remove the bus service for Primary 1 children beginning in September 2017.

Speaking to Newry Times, Sinéad said she has contacted the Education Authority regarding this bus service removal.

“This decision will have a massive impact on these children and their families, especially as it seem to only affect the P1s.

“I understand there are guidelines regarding who qualifies for transportation services from the Education Authority, but a one size fits all approach will not work in this case. Anyone who knows the area will know that Bettys Hill Road is an extremely narrow rural road; it is simply not safe for children to navigate, particularly at busy school times.”

Sinéad and Oksana said they have been in constant contact with both parents and the school to ensure that this service continues to run as normal for all children at Ballyholland Primary School.
