Newry students visit Malta on Erasmus+ Programme

SRC MaltaSouthern Regional College Level 3 and 4 Sports Studies students recently completed a two-week placement in Malta from 1st April to 15th April 2017, funded through the Erasmus+ programme.

Erasmus+ programmes help to improve the personal development of students and boost their employability skills through European work placements enabling them to obtain exposure to European training and coaching methods.


 

The group from Armagh, Lurgan and Newry and accompanying staff were hosted by SRC’s Maltese partner Luxol, who have been hosting SRC sports students far the last 10 years and providing excellent coaching and training placements.

25th March 2017Luxol have a wide range of sports facilities which are used by both professional and amateur athletes from all over the world.


 

During the two week visit, the students developed their training and coaching techniques by competing in football matches with various Maltese teams and intensive coaching sessions with coaches at Luxol.

The students then delivered coaching sessions to young people in local Maltese schools. The students got the opportunity to meet Mr Pippo Psaila, the Malta National Team coach.


 

As part of cultural activities, students had the opportunity to see local attractions such as Mosta, Ta’Qali Crafts Village and Mdina (Glass Blowing) Popeye Village and Valletta, Barracca Gardens and Waterfront where students learnt about the history of Valletta.

Students also received a guided tour of the National Stadium and facilities from Mr Alfred Cachia MFA.
