World Social Work Day celebrated in Newry

SW 2413To mark World Social Work Day on Monday 20th March, the Southern Health and Social Care Trust is raising awareness of how social workers make a difference to so many local people.

World Social Work Day is celebrated around the globe to highlight the work that social workers carry out and give them recognition for their invaluable contribution to society.


 

The Southern Trust is supporting the Northern Ireland Association of Social Workers 10 day social media campaign ’10 days – 10 ways #swmakesadifference’ – which will be highlighting the important and varied role that social workers have.

Go For It March 2017Paul Morgan, Executive Director of Social Work for the Southern Trust said, “In the Southern area we have around 600 social work staff, working with adults, young people and children, in sometimes very challenging and sensitive circumstances to help improve their lives.

March 10th 2017“I am very proud to know that the social care workforce in the Southern area are genuinely committed to protecting vulnerable people from harm or abuse, helping people to live independently and acting as advocates for those who need support.


 

“Throughout the next ten days we will be encouraging our social workers to share their experiences of how they make a difference right across all of our programmes of care from older people, adults, children, to those with mental health issues, physical and learning disabilities in both hospital or community settings,” he added.
