Call for investigation into Camlough Lake wall

camloughlakeSDLP Assembly Member for Newry and Armagh Justin McNulty has called for an urgent investigation into the erection of a high wall at Camlough Lake as part of ongoing works at the site.

McNulty made the call after being contacted by local residents in the area.

McNulty said, “The redevelopment of Camlough Lake is a much needed amenity in the local area and the proposals have been welcomed by everyone locally.

“However, in recent days a new wave wall has been constructed and this is causing considerable angst and anger in the local community.

Jan End 2017“I have been contacted by a number of residents locally and have made representations on their behalf. I have referred the case to the Chief Executive of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council for an urgent investigation,” he continued.

“I do not believe the wall is being constructed in accordance to what was approved nor where the local community advised or consulted on the proposal.

“This is a beautiful area and we cannot have the majestic views of the lake be destroyed by large lumps of concrete. Any development in this area must be sympathetic to the natural beauty of the area.

McNulty added, “I have asked the Chief Executive to conduct a full investigation into what is going on and the views of local residents must be taken on board as part of this process.”
