Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission to visit Newry

NI Human Rights CommissionThe Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission will visit Newry and Downpatrick on Monday 30th January as part of its ongoing community engagement programme.

The visit will include a meeting with Councillors and elected representatives at Newry, Mourne & Down District Council.

The Commission will also meet with representatives of the Police Service of Northern Ireland, to discuss local human rights issues together with a focus group.

Later on Monday, the Commission will engage with a range of agencies, including Citizens Advice Bureau, Space NI, NI housing Community Network, Mulholland Aftercare Services, Public Initiative for the Prevention of Suicide & Self-Harm, Mindwise, Downe & Daisy Hill Hospital Campaigns, Harmony Community Trust/Glebe House, and Greenhill YMCA.

Jan End 2017NIHRC Chief Commissioner Les Allamby said, “Monday’s visit is taking place as part of the Commission’s community engagement programme, which has seen the Commission engage with a broad variety of groups and organisations across Northern Ireland in recent years.


Les added, “These visits are a particularly important way of keeping up with what is happening on the ground by listening to local elected representatives, local organisations and public service representatives.”
