‘Extremely vulnerable man’ assaulted and robbed of Christmas money
Slieve Gullion Area Councillor Terry Hearty has said that there is huge anger within the community after a vulnerable man from the Cullyhanna area was robbed of his Christmas money.
Speaking to Newry Times, the Sinn Féin representative explained that the man had lifted his Christmas money at the local Post Office.
“Shortly after he returned home thugs entered his home, assaulted him, took his money from his pockets, locked him in the kitchen and ransacked the house,” he explained.

“What further compounded this cowardly attack was the fact that the victim would be viewed as extremely vulnerable. There is a huge anger within the community about this disgusting theft.”
Cllr Hearty appealed for help from the local community to bring those who carried out what he described as the ‘vile and vicious assault’ and robbery on the man, believed to be in his sixties and with learning difficulties, to justice.

“Those engaged in these type of dreadful crimes, need to be apprehended and face the full rigours of the law. Anyone who can give any information whatsoever about this disgusting act should give it to the PSNI immediately.
He added, “I am only too willing to help catch these thugs who terrify in particular the most vulnerable members of our community, so people can feel free to contact myself if they do wish.”
