Hearty welcomes street cleansing commitments

Sinn Fein Councillor Terry Hearty has welcomed a commitment from Newry Mourne and Down Council officials to instigate a regular street cleansing schedule for Crossmaglen.

crossmaglenLast week the Slieve Gullion councillor highlighted the lack of street cleansing happening in the town.

“There was a huge response to the issues highlighted last week and I’m glad to say that following on from that I have met with both the Crossmaglen Community Association and Council officials,” he said.

“I’m glad to be able to report that officials recognised there was a serious lack of cleansing services in the town and have committed themselves to ensuring that rubbish does not reach such unacceptable levels again.

“They have agreed to begin a regular cleansing process and will also tackle other issues such as lifting the slippery moss from the brickwork and paving around seating areas in the Square.

“There will also be more regular inspections and checks to ensure cleansing is happening,” Hearty explained.

“Following on from my invite to the Council CEO to come view the state of street cleansing in the town last week I would also invite him to attend this meeting as well.

Hearty added, “Hopefully this is the end of the issue and we can now get on with presenting the best possible image of our town to visitors and residents alike.”
