Funded through a Cash for Kids grant, the group had full access to the park including roller coaster rides, adventure zones and the petting zoo. Free transport was also provided.

Melanie Coffey and Maureen Woods, Supervising Social Worker’s within the Southern Trust, were the co-facilitators of the trip and both said they were delighted with the positive feedback they received from the carers and children who attended.

Maureen Woods said, “This has been a great start to our summer programme which is designed to nurture attachments between carers and their children and also to promote opportunities for looked after children.

“We are deeply grateful for all the hard work that our carers carry out and are delighted that we were able to offer this event in support of all their effort.

“We also want to acknowledge Cash for Kids – a children’s charity that offers grants to help support thousands of children across the UK each year. We are one of the lucky groups to receive one of their kind grants, and we will be putting these funds to good use.”

Maureen added, “And finally, we would like to thank Newry Mourne and Down District Council who are supporting this project through the Northern Ireland Executive Social Investment Fund.”
