Woman in ‘life threatening condition’ after Newry incident

A woman in her fifties is in a life threatening condition in hospital after she sustained serious head injuries in Newry.

psni7The Tandragee Road in Newry currently remains closed this morning as Police investigate an incident at a nearby house in Hollyridge Lane, is between the Fiveways roundabout and Carnbane Industrial Estate.

Officers were alerted to the injured female whilst following up on an earlier call from a member of the public where they attended a report of an intoxicated male at the Fiveways Roundabout.

It is believed that police are treating the incident as a suspected serious assault although it is still unclear how the woman sustained her injuries.

Speaking to Newry Times, Detective Inspector Colin Patterson said, “A woman aged in her fifties has sustained serious head injuries and has been taken to hospital. Her condition has been described as life threatening. We are investigating the cause of her injuries and the circumstances surrounding this incident.”

UPDATE at 17:17: The Tandragee Road, Newry has re-opened to traffic. There are no further updates on the condition of the woman.
