‘Meet the Manager’ day arranged to speak about Newry rail service concerns

Sinn Fein Assembly member Conor Murphy is inviting commuters from the Newry area to take their concerns about the city’s rail service directly to the station manager.

Newry-Train-Station21The Newry MLA revealed that a “Meet the Manager” day has been agreed following his recent meeting with Translink’s Chief Executive Chris Conway to discuss a number of issues surrounding train services to the city.

The Newry MLA called for the meeting after a number of concerns about the service were raised with him by local passengers. “We had a productive meeting in which I pressed him about a number of issues, primarily around the reduction in services to the Newry station,” he said.

“He was able to give me a number of assurances, in particular around connecting trains which he says will be held up to ensure passengers coming from Newry have the opportunity to board them. We also spoke about the availability and affordability of the Enterprise services as well as overcrowding when special events are on.

“However, local commuters have a wide range of concerns about the service so it was agreed that a “Meet the Manager” day would be held in the station.

Murphy added, “On Friday, February 19th at 10.30am the Station Manager will hold an open meeting in the station where people can bring their questions and concerns directly to him. I would urge anyone with concerns about the service to attend this meeting and help build the rail service that our city deserves.”
