The burgularly at Drumgullion Ave should be roundly condemned and although it happened during the morning time it does not alleviate residents fears for safety at night. This has been exacerbated recently with the removal of four street lights in a row in the centre of the estate plunging a sizeable portion of the estate into complete darkness. These street lights served their purpose well since the construction of Drumgullion and their removal to me was a money saving exercise without any due concern for residents particularly the elderly and vulnerable. Already back gates have been opened and gardens searched in this ‘blackout’ and drinking dens have started as the darkness hide people’s identities in back entries. The removal of these lights will only serve to increase anti-social behaviour with the middle of the estate enabling people to skulk about under the protection of darkness! In the interests of safety, security and crime prevention these lights should be replaced immediately.
