The future of sustainability, in Newry, Mourne and Down

“Sustainability is firmly on the new Council’s agenda” – this is the message delivered loud and clear at the Sustainability workshop that took place in Tollymore Forest on Monday 27th April.

sustain150 delegates from across the Newry, Mourne and Down District gathered to describe what they were doing on sustainability and how it impacts their work and community.

They included examples from business, community groups, and public organisations.

Cllr Naomi Bailie, Chair of Newry, Mourne and Down Council opened the event and admitted she was surprised and inspired by what she learned was happening right here in her own District.

“Sustainability can be a difficult concept for people to describe but once you see, hear, and experience the wonderful and inspiring examples we have in this District the whole topic becomes obvious and necessary,” she stated.

“Today we learned about Communities coming together to grow, to tackle fuel poverty and to protect local habitats.

Naomi added, “There is such a rich experience here in Newry, Mourne and Down of people doing sustainability on a daily basis, you can’t help but be excited for the potential for this area in the future.”
