Speaking to Newry Times, Hazzard said, “Sinn Féin has repeatedly lobbied Road Service to provide safe crossing on main street in Hilltown as it is a busy street with children crossing going and returning from school along with eldery people parking in the square and crossing to use the shop and Post office.

“Road safety is paramount, especially given the recent rise in the number of accidents involving pedestrians.

“On Saturday past Sinn Féin activists including myself and Caitriona Ruane carried out a door to door petition of local houses in order to gather support for the crossing.

“We now intend to present the petition to DRD Road Service in order to have the crossing install as soon as possible therefore providing a safer environment for everyone in Hilltown.”
