Newry police catch man removing car registration plates

Police in Newry have arrested a man after a number of registration plates were taken from cars.

Speaking to Newry Times, Constable Stephen Downey explained, “Around 8.45pm on Wednesday, 15th October, a man was seen taking number plates off parked vehicles in the Dominic Street/Pool Lane area.

“Seven vehicles had their number plates removed. We attended and were able to identify and locate a 26 year old man who was subsequently arrested in Mary Street, for seven counts of theft and two counts of assault on police after he spat on and attacked a male and female officer.

“The man has been released on bail pending further enquiries and we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the registration plates being removed or has information in relation to this incident. We can be contacted at Ardmore Police Station on the 101 number.”
