Free accredited course on Irish history at Newry Museum

Newry and Mourne Museum is offering members of the public the opportunity to obtain an OCN Level 1 qualification whilst studying Irish history between the Act of Union in 1800 and the Partition of Ireland in 1921.

Those attending will be able to examine events such as the Home Rule Crisis, the sinking of the Titanic, the First World War, and the Easter Rising.

They will be also be able to learn research techniques to undertake their own historical research on the period.

The training is sponsored by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Department of Social Development and the EU’s Peace III Programme, and therefore there will be no charge to participate. Refreshments will also be provided.

All work for the qualification can be completed during the two day course and there is no requirement to do additional work at home.

The course will take place at Newry & Mourne Museum, Bagenal’s Castle, Castle Street, Newry on Wednesday 12th and Thursday 13th November from 10am – 2:30 pm each day. (Participants must be able to attend both days.)
