The Fews area Councillor explained, “Foras na Gaeilge is currently carrying out a consultation on the ongoing review of Scéim Phobail Gaeilge.

“This includes proposals for radical changes to the way Irish language organisations are currently funded. Sinn Féin has concerns about some elements of the proposals, including plans to introduce geographical criteria in the funding process rather than base applications solely on need.”

The Sinn Féin elected representative said that the consultation responses need to be in by 1pm on November 21st. “It is essential that people have the opportunity to have their say on these proposals and I would encourage anyone involved in the Irish language to take part in the consultation.”
