McKevitt condemns ‘cowardly’ Rostrevor robbery
SDLP South Down representatives Karen McKevitt MLA and Cllr Michael Carr have condemned the robbery of a couple on the Rostrevor Road near Warrenpoint.
Speaking after hearing about the robbery McKevitt told Newry Times, “I want to condemn this particularly nasty robbery near Warrenpoint.
“I understand that several men broke into the house where they tied up the couple living there and locked them in their bathroom before making off with a considerable sum.
“This type of heartless crime has no place in South Down and the people of Warrenpoint and Rostrevor will rightly reject it. I hope the police act quickly to find those responsible and make them accountable before the law.
Councillor Michael Carr added, “As chair of the local Policing and Community Safety Partnership I want to place on record my disgust and condemnation of this horrible crime.
“This callous and cowardly attack will have a traumatic effect on the couple who were the victims and will create a chill factor for the wider community.
“I would appeal to anyone with any information to contact the Police as soon as possible and help bring these thugs to justice.”
