Bradley raises Newry arts funding imbalance at Stormont
SDLP MLA for Newry and Armagh and member of the assembly’s Culture, Arts and Leisure Committee, Dominic Bradley, has asked the Minister what plans she has to correct the imbalance in arts capital funding for Newry city.
Commenting on the Minister’s reply Bradley said, “I welcome the fact the Minister has given a commitment her Department or, indeed, an arm’s-length body of her Department, be willing to be a partner with other partners in Newry city to deliver a major capital arts project.
“There is a thriving arts community in Newry and district which is working together to ensure the imbalance which exists in capital provision is put right.
“Newry needs a state-of-the-art arts facility which will accommodate all of the various activities, which local arts groups provide. There is certainly room for a number of bodies, including the Department to work together and provide the cocktail of funding necessary to bring this project to fruition.
Bradley added, “The local arts group have set the ball rolling and I would hope the relevant public bodies will respond in a way which will lead to significant development.”
