Work started in the Bridle Loanan area at the start of April and will see more than 10,000 metres of pipeline laid to enable properties near the Burren Road, Dallan Road and Upper Dromore Road to have natural gas installed for the first time.

The 30-week programme will almost complete the planned network growth in the area.

The work has been agreed with Transport NI and signage will be in place to advise motorists of any diversions.

Ciaran Brennan, Network Engineer for firmus energy said, “firmus energy first entered Warrenpoint in 2011 and since then we’ve laid 28km of pipeline in the area to give 2,711 homes and businesses the opportunity to connect to the natural gas network.

“The investment in Bridle Loanan follows recent work in Well Road and Moygannon areas and more than ninety-five per cent of Warrenpoint will have access to natural gas by the end of October.

“These works are necessary to complete the development of our natural gas network and secure our network in the Town.

“We have engaged extensively with Transport NI and other utility providers and agreed a traffic management plan for the duration of the four programmes to minimise disruption to residents, businesses and road users.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the local households and businesses for their understanding and co-operation.

“We will continue to work with all the appropriate authorities and make every effort to ensure that any disruption is kept to an absolute minimum.”

Lane and road closures will be required at various stages as the work progresses, but diversions will be in place and firmus energy and its main contractors Kier Utilities have committed to minimising disruption as much as possible.

Established in 2005, firmus energy supplies natural gas to over 100,000 homes and businesses throughout Northern Ireland.
