The Newry and Armagh MLA said, “The Infrastructure Committee once again supported an incoming rule to increase the Penalty points for people who use mobile phones while driving.

“This would increase the penalty points for the offence from three points to six points and the fine from £60 to £200.

“If tougher enforcement can reduce the possibility of another road collision then it should be supported.

“A single collision and death on our roads are one too much.

“And we must improve road safety through every means at our disposal, from tougher enforcement to improving our road infrastructure as well.

“I look forward to seeing the implementation of this measure to increase the safety of our roads,” she added.
