Sinn Féin Councillor Oonagh Magennis has said that those responsible for dumping a load of tyres on land in St Oliver Plunkett Park, Camlough, care nothing about the local residents and the annoyance such an act has caused.

The local representative also confirmed that she had contacted the Council requesting them to lift the tyres as a matter of urgency.

Speaking to Newry Times, she said, “This is in total disregard to the residents who live here and is a disgusting act.

“There are places where these tyres can be disposed of legally and in accordance with environmental practice.”

Oonagh continued, “After being dumped a few tyres have been set alight, thankfully not taking hold as they are dumped very near houses.

“I have contacted the Council and asked them to remove this eyesore as a matter of urgency.”

The Sinn Féin Councillor added, “This is not only an environmental crime but also an act of total selfishness against the St Oliver Plunkett Park community.”
