Two arrests after hammer attack in Newry

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a disturbance at a flat in Cleary Crescent in Newry during the early hours of 29 May 2019.

It is understood a 26 year old man had been assaulted with a hammer.



He was taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment.

Detectives investigating the assault have arrested two males aged 24 and 15 years old on suspicion of attempted murder.



Both males are currently in police custody.

Detective Sergeant Connor said, “Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the males leaving the area at around 12.20 is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference 21 29/05/19.”
