8 vehicles targeted by thieves in Newry

Police in Newry are investigating a spate of thefts from parked vehicles at a number of locations across the city in recent days.

Speaking to Newry Times, Sergeant Gracey said, “We have received eight reports since Tuesday, 13 November of vehicles having been entered and items stolen and, unfortunately, the majority of these incidents have involved unlocked cars.

“The incidents have occurred throughout Newry and at this stage we believe they are all linked.

“We regularly offer crime prevention advice with regards to securing vehicles and removing any items from cars which may be of interest to criminals.

“I would like to take this opportunity to reinforce this message and again ask that members of the public lock their cars, remove valuables from their cars to a safe place and report any suspicious activity in their area to police immediately.

“I would also ask anyone with any information which could assist us with our enquiries into these recent thefts to contact officers at Ardmore station on 101.

Sergeant Gracey added, “Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
