She told Newry Times, “The completion of the first phase of works is to be welcomed.

“Works completed to date has seen additional drainage added to a stretch of the road which should see a significant reduction in surface water and therefore increase road safety.”

The Sinn Féin representative continued, “I can confirm that I have contacted Transport NI urging them to ensure that the second phase, the resurfacing of a 110metre stretch is completed as a matter of urgency.

“The particularly severe winter last year saw the Green Road deteriorate into an appalling state, so bad indeed that many drivers damaged vehicles.

The local Councillor added, “This work is therefore welcomed by everyone and I ask the community for their continued patience as work is completed.”
