Anger as youths attack Newry pensioner’s homes

Newry Sinn Fein Councillor Charlie Casey has appealed for recent attacks on pensioner’s homes in the Main Avenue area of Derrybeg Park to cease.

Speaking to Newry Times about the incidents Councillor Casey said, “I am appealing to the young people involved in these stone-throwing incidents to cease immediately before someone is injured.

“Young people have unfortunately been targetting pensioner’s homes, resulting in windows being smashed and damage caused to window frames.”

Councillor Casey continued, “We are approaching the bright evenings and residents are fearful that these acts of vandalism will only get worse if they are not stopped now.

“This is not fun or high jinks. It is wrong that local people are having to live in fear and it is unacceptable that vulnerable people in our community are being singled out for this anti-community activity.”
