Warrenpoint Town FC appoints McDonnell and Barron

The Board of Warrenpoint Town FC have agreed a 3-year contract with Stephen McDonnell as First Team Manager.

Speaking to Newry Times, Chairman Connaire McGreevy said, “We are delighted to have successfully negotiated a three year deal with Stevie, with Colm Barron staying on as Assistant Manager.

“We had a lot of interest in the position, but Stevie and Colm were the first choice for us.

“The club has a vision which the two men buy into but more importantly want to be part of in implementing and shaping it going forward,” he added.

McDonnell (26), a recently qualified UEFA A coach had an unfortunate end to his playing career four years ago while wearing the Warrenpoint Town jersey.

Colm Barron (34) had a similar sudden end to his playing career at 19 years of age.

Stephen McDonnell said that he was delighted with the role and was ready to make things happen straight away.

“I have been interim manager now for 7 games and during that time coupled with my time here as a coach I have had the opportunity to plan a squad for next season,” he said.

“I have said from day one this is a job that I want and a challenge that I am up for.

“The players will now have the full knowledge that I am appointed and it will be their challenge to come onboard with me,” Stephen added.

With one game to go in the 2017/18 season, Warrenpoint Town have already secured Premiership football for next season and the fans are looking forward to welcoming Stephen and Colm to the Q Radio Arena this Saturday as the new permanent management team.
