Newry MP praises Old Warrenpoint Road residents campaign

Newry and Armagh MP Mickey Brady has praised the Old Warrenpoint Road Community Group and all local residents involved in a lengthy lobby to campaign for improved Safety and Traffic Calming measures for residents, pedestrians and motorists using the road.

He also commended the work of elected representatives from across the political spectrum who supported the campaign.

 

 

Speaking to Newry Times, the Sinn Féin MP said, “The Community Group and residents supported by myself, local Councillor Valerie Harte, my Party colleagues and elected representatives from across the political spectrum, have brought concerns about road conditions including traffic calming and pedestrian safety to the appropriate agencies and Department Ministers, encouraging them to address these issues of road safety which impacted on all.

 

 

“After many years of perseverance, our lobby has finally resulted in a decision that a programme of road improvement and traffic calming which includes the erection of traffic islands, dropping kerbs, refreshing the road markings and a reduction of the road speed from 40mph to 30mph.

He added, “This is welcome news and will give fresh impetus to all who wish to ensure that the area is a happy, healthy and safe place to live.”
