Newry Councillor issues home heating oil theft warning

Sinn Féin Councillor Charlie Casey has warned householders across the city to be on their guard against home heating oil thieves in the run up to Christmas.

His appeal followed the recent report of an oil theft in Newry which took place in the Barcroft Park area.

The Newry City Sinn Féin Councillor said, “I feel it’s timely to warn people across the city to be on their guard against home heating oil thieves in the run up to Christmas.

“With the cost of home heating oil so expensive, having oil stolen is causing severe hardship to many families who cannot afford to refill their tanks.

“I would call on people to be observant. If you see suspicious activity in the laneways around a neighbour’s house, particularly if there is no one at home, call the police,” he added.
