Man, 48, charged with attempted murder after local stabbing incident

A 48 year old man has been charged with attempted murder, grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence.

The charges are in connection with an incident on Main Street in Belleeks shortly after midnight following reports that two males had been stabbed.

The males, both of whom are 43 years old, were given first aid by police at the scene before being transferred to hospital.

Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Speaking last week, Detective Constable David Skillen said, “Police were called to a bar on Main Street shortly after midnight following reports that two males had been stabbed. Upon arrival officers found that one man had sustained a stab wound to the neck and another had been stabbed in the hand.

He is expected to appear before Newry Magistrates Court on Wednesday 1st November.

As is normal procedure all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.
