‘Joyriding putting lives at risk’ – Sinn Fein Councillor after crash

Slieve Gullion Sinn Féin Councillor Mickey Larkin has called for an end to dangerous joyriding following a one-car crash in the Kilnasaggart area of Jonesborough.

A vehicle travelling at speed clipped a ditch and overturned, as residents complained of racing and dangerous driving on the extremely narrow country roads in the area.

Cllr Larkin strongly condemned those responsible, adding that only luck on this occasion prevented serious injury or perhaps tragedy. “Although the occupants of the vehicle in question appear to have escaped without injury, the car was wrecked.

Article continues below:

“This road is a narrow one-way route, and is entirely unsuitable for hard driving. Residents in the area are disturbed by the actions of joyriders on the surrounding roads last Sunday night. This behaviour is extremely dangerous and will not be tolerated by the local population.

“Lives are being put at risk by reckless behaviour of this kind. This community could likely see another road tragedy if those pursuing this madness do not desist from their anti-community activities.

He added, “A car is a lethal weapon in the wrong hands, and maturity and respect for the local community is absent from those pursuing these actions.”
