Knife-wielding man appears in Newry court after attempted robbery

Newry CourthousePolice in Newry, investigating an attempted robbery at Buttercrane Quay on Sunday 14th May, have charged a 22 year old man with a number of offences.

The charges include attempted robbery, possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence and assault on police.


 

Shortly before 3am on 14th May a lorry driver was unloading his vehicle when he was approached and threatened by a man armed with a knife.

Go For It March 2017The lorry driver managed to lock himself in the cab of the lorry.


 

The 22 year old suspect was detained by police a short distance away on Dublin Road.


 

He appeared at Newry Magistrates Court on Monday 15th May.
