Brady warns about DLA changes

Newry and Armagh MP Mickey Brady has warned people to be aware of changes to the way Disability Living Allowance and its replacement are to be delivered.

Mickey Brady“People on DLA need to be aware that since the 20th of June, if they ring in to say their condition has changed, this will automatically trigger a reassessment of their case, which could potentially cause them to lose benefits,” he said.

“This applies to people under 65 who are currently in receipt of DLA so I would urge anybody who finds themselves in that position to think very carefully about that decision.

“I’d also remind people that those who previously would have applied for DLA will now have to claim Personal Independence Payment, which has replaced DLA and will be assessed on a different points based system.

“These changes are clearly designed to have people’s benefits reduced or removed by stealth and bureaucracy and are the outworkings of the Tory austerity Sinn Féin warned people about in the run up to the Westminster election.
