“Farmers should apply early and online for Single Farm Payment” – Hearty

Sinn Féin Councillor Terry Hearty is reminding farmers that the application process for Single Farm Payments has opened.

hearty1The Crossmaglen councillor, who is also the party’s council spokesperson on agriculture, added that where possible farmers should apply online.

“This is the earliest that the application process has ever opened and Minister Michelle O’Neill has done so in order to be able to make payments early this year,” he said.

“However, in order to meet her tight deadline we need around 70% of farmers to use the online application service, which speeds up the process as it takes an average of 10 weeks to fill in a paper application.

“Filling in the application online cuts back on that time and makes correcting mistakes easier as improvements have been made to the online version,” Hearty continued.

“These include a notification of error system, a receipt and summary of the claim, as well as access to farm maps, which when changed automatically update all fields in the application form.

“It is therefore crucial we get the message out to farmers that by applying early and online it will speed up the entire process,” he added.
