Barcroft interagency meeting success

Sinn Féin Councillor Liz Kimmins has said the first meeting of a newly set up interagency group in the Barcroft area was a positive initiative with huge potential for the future.

“I have been working in partnership with Barcroft Community Association for the past number of months, and together we have set up the first inter-agency meeting for this area,” she said.

“The inaugural meeting took place with a number of agencies including NIHE and future meetings will give residents an opportunity to raise any issues affecting the area with the agencies responsible for dealing with them.

“We agreed on what other agencies should be invited to future meetings including Transport NI, housing associations and Newry, Mourne and Down District Council amongst others.

LizKimmins“These meetings will work to address everyday issues including anti-social behaviour, housing, roads, cleansing and maintenance of the area and aims to improve the area for the whole community.

“There has been an estate inspection arranged with all the relevant agencies for April and this will involve a walkabout of the area so agencies can become more familiar with the area and also any outstanding issues.

“This has been a very positive initiative for this area, as many residents have previously reported they felt the area has been overlooked and its upkeep not sustained. I hope the community will be forthcoming with any issues they have and I will ensure there is a proper follow up carried out through these inter-agency meetings as an accountability and problem solving mechanism. Details of the meetings will also be shared via a leaflet drop in the area in the coming weeks.

Kimmins added, “I would encourage any resident who would like any issues raised at the next meeting to contact myself on 07840588741 or liz.kimmins@nmandd.org or alternatively forward them to any member of Barcroft Community Association.”
