Community, What's On
The search is well and truly underway to find worthy recipients of this year’s Youth and Future Talent Awards (YAFTAs). YAFTA PhotoThe closing date of 25th February 2016 is fast approaching which means there is just over one week left to get your nominations in. Nominations are open to honour the positive work young people are quietly doing. All aspects of the awards are run by young people, for young people to commend the value these ‘unsung heroes’ have in their communities. There are six categories to choose from; Innovation & Creativity, Voice of Young People, Community Safety, Young Carer, Good Relations and Inspirational Young Person. Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Mickey Ruane said, “Young People are the future of the district and the YAFTAs provide a great opportunity to showcase their talents and the positive work they do in their homes, schools and communities which can often go unrecognised. “This is your chance to say thank-you to them for making our communities a better place to live by nominating them for this special accolade. I would encourage everyone to take the time to complete a nomination form.” Councillor Ruane added, “This is your chance to nominate the unsung heroes of our district and a chance to shine the light of recognition on those young people who you think deserve to be acknowledged for being very special and making a difference to the lives of others.” If you know a young person who you think is deserving of this award make sure to get your nomination form by contacting Kerri Morrow at Newry, Mourne and Down District Council on telephone 0300 013 2233, Maureen O’Gorman, Education Authority on 028 3025 1515 or alternatively by contacting the Youth Councils directly.
