Sinn Fein councillor Valerie Harte has urged people in the city to be extra vigilant following a spate of burglaries. burglary7“Break-ins have been an issue in Newry for some time now but over the weekend we saw a spate of them in the Ballybot area and the High Street and Warrenpoint Road area,” she told Newry Times. “I would just urge people to be extra vigilant; make sure doors and windows are locked and that outside lights work, don’t give them any excuse to target your house. Harte added, “I’d also ask people to look out for their neighbours, particularly elderly or vulnerable ones. The only way to beat these thugs is to stand up to them as a community.”
