£400,000 investment in Gaelscoil Na mBeann welcomed

Sinn Féin MLA Caitríona Ruane has expressed her delight at the announcement of a £400,000 investment in Gaelscoil Na mBeann Irish medium primary school. ruanecaitSpeaking to Newry Times, Ruane said, “I am delighted at the news that Kilkeel’s Irish language primary school, Gaelscoil Na mBeann has been awarded £400,000 for developing the school. “I approved this school during my tenure as Education Minister so it is rewarding to see it going from strength to strength. This investment by Sinn Féin’s Minister for Education John O’Dowd is a testament to the growth of the Irish language in Mourne and the passion of Irish language activists. “This is fantastic news for Gaelscoil Na mBeann and the thriving Irish language community in Mourne. There is huge evidence that bilingual schools enhances a child’s learning and that more and more parents are deciding to educate their children through the medium of Irish. She added, “I have worked closely with the school over the years and will continue to do so in the time ahead so that children and parent form the Irish language community have the best possible school in which to be educated.”
