Sinn Féin MLA Caitriona Ruane has welcomed the decision by Education Minister John O’Dowd to allow four Irish medium schools including Gaelscoil na mBeann, Kilkeel to apply for capital grants. ruane2Speaking to Newry Times, Ruane said, “It is testament to the growth of the Irish language educational sector that the Minister has given the go ahead for four Irish medium schools to be able to be considered for funds for expansion in the future. “I am delighted that Gaelscoil na mBeann, Kilkeel has been included and given the fact that I approved this school during my tenure as Education Minister its growth is a remarkable success story. “This is evidence of the growing strength of the Irish medium education in Mourne and down to the efforts of the pupils, teachers and parents of Gaelscoil na mBeann who all should be congratulated on their hard work. She added, “The Irish medium education sector is one of the fastest growing sectors within the North and I will continue to work with the relevant agencies to see this hard work rewarded with better facilities and greater pupil numbers.”
