Cash taken in Warrenpoint ‘distraction burglary’

Police in Newry and Mourne are appealing for information following a distraction burglary in Warrenpoint on Friday 26th June.

psniAt around noon on the day in question, a man called to a house in Lower Dromore Road and claimed to be from the council.

He took the male occupant of the house to the back garden.

Speaking to Newry Times, Chief Inspector Gillian West explained, “We believe that another two males entered the house while the occupant was outside and ransacked upstairs. A sum of cash was taken and the three males made off in a dark coloured Nissan Almera.

“The occupant of the house was left shaken by this incident. Our enquiries are ongoing and we would like to hear from anyone who observed the vehicle or has information which may assist our investigation. We can be contacted in Newry on 101, quoting ref: 451 260615.

Asking the public to remain vigilant, he added, “If you see people or vehicles which appear out of place or suspicious please phone police straight away.

“Please also keep an eye on the older and more vulnerable members of your community. Advise them to check on the identity of callers to their home and to contact police if they are concerned.”
