Belvoir Players bring TV comedy to launch Summer Season

From live music and kid’s entertainment on the promenade to drama and comedy theatre in the Newcastle Centre, the annual Newcastle Summer Season programme will bring a fantastic selection of live entertainment to the seaside town this July and August.

Allo AlloThe Summer Nights programme will offer a variety of live theatre and music events every Friday and Saturday night in the Newcastle Centre on Central Promenade.

To kick off a season of terrific theatre is a production of ‘Allo, ‘Allo’ with the ever popular Belvoir Players on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th July at 8pm.

Anyone who watched TV in the 1980’s will remember the hit show by Jeremy Lloyd & David Croft, ‘Allo, ‘Allo’, now brought to the stage by the Belvoir Players. The action revolves around René Artois who runs a small café in France during World War II.

René always seems to have his hands full; he’s having affairs with most of his waitresses, he’s keeping his wife happy, he’s trying to please the German soldiers who frequent his café and he’s running a major underground operation for the Resistance.

Quite often, the Germans’ incompetence itself is what nearly lands René and his cohorts in hot water; they are not helped either by the locals, who are dreadfully keen to get rid of the Germans, but their blatant and theatrical attempts at espionage and secrecy often create problems that René must solve quickly.

Belvoir Players have been producing first class amateur theatre for nearly 50 years and annually tour the Province with entertaining comedies ranging from Sam Cree’s popular Ulster gems to the top comedy writers that have proved their worth in professional theatres worldwide.

Newry, Mourne & Down District Council Chairperson Naomi Bailie commented, “The Newcastle Summer Season offers a wonderful selection of live performances throughout July and August, and we’re delighted that the season is being launched by Belvoir Players who form an integral part of the entertainment programme in Newcastle each summer, and are firm favourites with local and summer audiences alike.”
