April 2nd marks the 8th annual World Autism Awareness Day when Autism Speaks will celebrate its “Light It Up Blue” campaign across the globe. boylan4Autism is one of three health issues that has been recognised with its own day by the United Nations. Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Boylan, who has represented the party for the past 7 years on the Autism All Party Working Group (APG) in Assembly, has called for people to join in the “Light It Up Blue” Campaign. Speaking today he said, “I would encourage everyone to play their small part and wear a bit of blue or indeed “Light it Up Blue” to show their support and promote awareness for Autism. “It is important that we continue to implement the Strategy and Action Plan (2013-2016) to ensure high quality services are delivered to those right across the spectrum.” He added, “World Autism Awareness Day seeks to promote public awareness for Autism on a global scale through a range of events. I would urge people to use “#LIUB or #wearitblue” on social media interactions to show their contributions to help light up the world blue this year.”
