Rogers welcomes possible rail link from Belfast to Dublin Airport

South Down MLA Seán Rogers has welcomed news that Irish Rail is considering creating a rail link from Belfast to Dublin Airport.

The South Down MLA, who says he is eager to ensure a Newry stop is included in all possible proposals said, “The development of a first class quality road infrastructure by the Irish Government has already made Dublin the airport of choice for many when planning overseas trips.

“A developed rail link, albeit with a possible quick change at Clongriffin, will give passengers living in or visiting this part of Ireland more choice whilst travelling.”

Rogers explained that Dublin Airport already attracts 500,000 passengers a year from the North of Ireland. “The introduction of a direct rail link could see this number soar even higher,” he insisted.

“Likewise, visitors arriving at Dublin Airport could facilitate of this quick and easy rail service that would bring them directly to Newry.”
