Sinn Féin Newry & Armagh MLA Megan Fearon has welcomed the publication of guidelines for applications for Young Farmers’ Payments. Speaking to Newry Times, the local MLA explained, “The Young Farmers’ Payment Guidance booklet includes information on who is eligible for these payments and information on how to apply. “In the past there was some confusion and concerns over the Young Farmers’ Payment scheme, and I commend my colleague and agriculture minister Michelle O’Neill for publishing this booklet to clarify the situation.” Echoing his colleague’s sentiments Councillor Terry Hearty said, “These guidelines clear up exactly who is eligible for top-up payments and what evidence is required to support the applications. This information is timely as it comes well in advance of the application process. He added, “More than €6 million is available for Young Farmers and it is vital that it is accessible to encourage young farmers in North.”
