Road improvement work set for Newry and Mourne

MLA for South Down Karen McKevitt has welcomed the news that road and footpath improvement work will be carried out by Roads Service.

Speaking to Newry Times, McKevitt said, “After making representation on behalf of constituents, I have been advised by Roads Service that resurfacing work will be carried out on several roads across South Down including the A25 Castlewellan Road, Upper Knockbarragh Road, Longstone Hill, Kinghill, Convent Hill and Green Hill Road to the junction at Barnmeen.

“I am delighted that Roads Service will also reconstruct two hundred meters of footpath on the B27 Rathfriland to Hilltown Road and replace kerbing on footpaths in Marie Villas, Burren.

“New footpaths will also be introduced for Crown Crescent, Newry and Roads Service have also committed to looking at widening the road so bin lorries, etc. can enter safely.

McKevitt added, “I am very pleased with the listed work that Roads Service will be carrying out across the constituency which I represent. These works are greatly needed and will be welcomed by the community.”
