Star ‘turn’ for South Armagh woman Mairead Traynor

Style and elegance were front runners all the way, according to Ladies Day Best Dressed sponsor, Kris Turnbull, as the most stylish Saturday in Northern Ireland’s social diary made a welcome return to Down Royal Racecourse.

The fashion and racing elite were on their marks and ready for the two day highlight of the racing calendar – NI Festival of Racing.

And Northern Ireland’s most stylish outfits were on parade to win the much coveted ‘Best dressed’ accolade.

Wowing the judges with her unique combination of timeless elegance and fashion edginess was milliner and mum of three Mairead Traynor from Silverbridge, who included a design from her own collection; Millinery by Mairead.

Style supremo, international interior designer, Kris Turnbull of the eponymous studios on the Lisburn Road headed up the judging panel, alongside NI Gossip Guy Neil Cole and IN! Magazine’s Hayley Harrison.

Kris, whose recent projects have included everything from palaces to presidential homes, praised Mairead’s winning look. “I was searching for a ‘look’ which sums up the timeless thrill and utterly captivating appeal of race day – for both race enthusiasts and fashion lovers alike.

“Mairead took the judging panel’s breath away. We loved Mairead’s approach; chic, modern and edgy but at the same time elegant and classic – her outfit sums up the very ethos of the NI Festival of Racing, and it was unfortunate we could not have more than one winner as the style from our six other finalists was so strong.”

Mairead’s top prize, in keeping with the style, luxury and excitement of the Festival itself, is a dream holiday to Monaco and includes flights, luxury accommodation in the Fairmount Monte Carlo, return helicopter transfers and dinner at the exclusive Fairmount hotel.

The fashion ‘form’ was fantastic overall on Day Two of the Festival – with the six runners up receiving a bottle of Billecart Salmon champagne and two entrance tickets for the Boxing Day race meeting courtesy of Down Royal.

And it wasn’t just Northern Ireland’s fashionistas who were well-dressed. The racecourse itself has been enjoying a makeover and the venue’s enhanced facilities – part of a £5milion redesign and refurbishment – were unveiled this weekend with a stunning new main public bar and social space wowing punters.
