Detectives in Newry are investigating an incident at a house in the St John’s Terrace area of Rathfriland on the evening of Thursday 9th October. Speaking to Newry Times, Investigating Officer Detective Constable Lisa McAteer explained, “We received a report of a masked and armed man entering a house at around 10.20pm and threatening the male and female occupants. “The male occupant was struck by the intruder and an attempt was made to tie both occupants up. Both managed to free themselves however, and fled the house to raise the alarm. “The intruder and a possible accomplice are believed to have made off from the scene on foot across a nearby field. Both occupants were left badly shaken. “The suspect has been described as being around 5’6” tall, in his late 20’s and was wearing a military style green jumper with black trousers, black leather boots and was carrying a suspected firearm. “At this stage of our enquiries we have yet to identify a motive for the incident. We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area or who may have information which may be of assistance to our investigation and would ask them to call us at CID in Ardmore station on 101. She added, “Information can also be passed anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
