Meeting requested over Mayobridge ‘accident blackspot’

Sinn Féin Councillor Sinead Ennis and Caitriona Ruane MLA have requested a meeting with the DRD Road Service to discuss safety concerns raised over the Maguiresbridge just outside Mayobridge.

Speaking to Newry Times, Councillor Ennis explained, “Over the past number of months a number of traffic accidents have taken place at the bridge so it is vital that we look at the safety concerns’ raised by local residents.

“We have now requested a meeting with DRD Road Service to discuss safety on this road and to see what measures can be put in place to increase the safety of all road users.”

Ruane said, “This spot is developing into an accident blackspot so it is imperative that we come together to ensure that improvements are made to stop any further accidents occurring.

“Road safety needs to be a top priority if we are to reverse the current trend on increased deaths on the road and I will be enforcing this message to the local officials at DRD Road Service.”
