Warning to pet owners after five cats die in poisoning incident

Police in Warrenpoint are appealing for information following the death of a number of cats by suspected poisoning.

On Thursday, 25th September and Friday, 26th September, police received reports of five cats in the Ardallan Park area having died from suspected poisoning.

A number of other cats are also suffering from suspected poisoning and are currently being treated by local vets.

Speaking to Newry Times, Constable Natalie Brennan, South Down Neighbourhood Policing Team, said, “We have conducted enquiries and called to homes in the area to speak to local residents about this and make them aware.

“The cats who have passed away are family pets and their owners are understandably upset and frustrated.

“We would like your help to find those responsible. If you notice any unusual activity in the local area or have information in relation to these incidents, please contact us in Warrenpoint on the 101 number,” he added.

If you prefer to provide information without giving your details you can contact the independent Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
